Report: Scarborough Athletic 3 Moors 0

A flurry of first half goals proved the difference as Moors fell to their first defeat of the season at Scarborough Sports Village.

Rio Allan opened the scoring with a fine finish on the 16th minute, only for Moors to be awarded a penalty just 2 minutes later. Richie Bennett stepped up, but saw his effort saved well by Ryan Whitley.

Mo Fadera made it two for the hosts with a powerful effort into the top left corner, before Allan grabbed his second of the game soon after with a good strike into the bottom right corner.

Moors had a good chance in the opening minutes through Rob Ramshaw, but his scuffed effort was routinely collected by Whitley in the Scarborough net.

The Seadogs had a chance of their own with 10 minutes on the clock, when Captain, Will Thornton rose highest to get his head on an in-swinging corner. His effort flew well over the bar.

Back-to-back efforts from Fadera looked to pose a threat for Moors, however, his first went wide, before he saw his second stopped by Zac Hadi.

The hosts hit the front with 16 minutes on the clock, as Allan found the net. A brilliantly placed long ball forward from Luke Hall found the run of Allan, who broke into the area and found the bottom corner with a sharp strike.

Moors were given a chance to make an instant response just 2 minutes later, as Thornton was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area, winning Tommy miller’s side a penalty.

Former Boro forward Richie Bennet stepped up, but saw his strike towards the bottom left corner well savedby Whitley, who got down to his right to deny the number 26 of an equaliser.

Things got worse for Moors with 25 minutes on the clock, as Scarborough doubled their lead. Good control from Federal saw him wriggle away from a challenge 25-yards from goal, before smashing an effort into the top left corner.

Fadera looked to grab his second with 10 minutes of the first half remaining, but saw his shot towards the bottom right corner bounce wide of Hadi’s goal.

Scarborough got their 3rd of the evening just a few minutes later, as Allan doubled his tally. The number 7 burst into the penalty area from the right hand side, evading challenges on his way through, before finding the bottom right corner with a well placed finish.

It could’ve been four for the hosts on the stroke of half time, as Allan looked to have grabbed his hat-trick. However, the linesman’s flag had already been raised with the goal being ruled out for offside.

Moors started the second half well, as Junior Mondal slipped a ball through to substitute, Glen Taylor. He took aim with a first time strike, but saw the effort claimed by Whitley.

Taylor had another chance soon after, as he struck a low effort from distance, which went just wide of the mark.

Both sides had aches around the hour mark. First for the hosts as Luke Hall fired a strike over the bar from the edge of the area, before Ramshaw’s effort from distance was claimed by Scarborough’s ‘keeper.

Defender, Jake Hull saw two chances go begging in quick succession, both of which from corners. The first was a glanced header that went just wide of the far post, with the second being a close range effort that flew over the bar.

Hadi was called into action late on, as he did well to keep a low effort out of the net from an awkward angle.

A tough defeat on the road for Moors, as focus shifts onto Saturday’s game against Oxford City at The Brewery Field.
