The points were shared at The Brewery Field as Moors were held to a one-all draw with newly-promoted side, Hednesford Town.

Matty Dolan grabbed the first goal of the afternoon with a right footed strike from close range, before Ahkeem Rose found the equaliser for the visitors soon after.

A first chance on the ten minute mark came for the visitors after Omari Sterling-James got on the end of a long ball. The number 10 smashed a shot goalwards, but saw the strike charged down by Brad James, who made the stop.

Moors opened the scoring on 18 minutes. Glen Taylor’s deflected strike from the centre of the box caused a scramble, as Matty Dolan was able to get the final touch and put his side into the lead on his first appearance of the season.

The visitors to equalised on 25 minutes, as Rose was gifted with a golden opportunity after an error at the back and found the net from a tight angle via the inside of the left post after the attacker rounded the Brad James.

Hednesford did have the ball in the back of the net after the ball bobbled around inside the area, however, a foul on James saw Moors win a free-kick.

Rose nearly doubled up 40 minutes in when he pounced on a ball over the top, but he was well denied by Brad James as the forward tried to take it around the keeper.

Sterling-James almost caught James out with a minute of the half remaining when he smashed an effort from long range, which bounced narrowly wide of the bottom left post.

The Moors goalkeeper was on hand again, this time after the break, as he again denied Sterling-James from close range to keep the scores level.

Another opportunity went the way of the visitors on the hour mark as substitute Jamie Cooke was sent through on goal. His low strike, however, was well saved by James.

Moors saw a good chance go begging with 19 minutes left as Taylor shifted into space on the edge of the area. His right footed effort though flew well over the bar.

Cooke went close again soon after, but saw his low driven effort from 35-yards drag wide of the bottom left corner.

As Moors pushed for a winner, Dan Jones tried his luck with an ambitious long range strike, which flew well wide of the target.

An inviting ball right across the face of goal from a Hednesford man almost caused some late drama at The brewery Field, but somehow no one in blue was able to tap the ball home for the winner, as the game ended with the points shared.

Focus now shifts onto Saturday’s trip to Hereford as Moors look to build on today’s point and get back to winning ways.
