Report: Seaton Carew 7-0 Spennymoor

A young Moors side were knocked out of the Durham Challenge Cup last night following a rampant display from the hosts.

Goals from Matty Bradley, Robbie Lithgo, Tom Goundry, Kingston Butler as well as a hat-trick from Craig Linsel sealed the victory for Seaton on a cold night at Hornby Park.

Moors started positively as Jermaine Mwa found space to drive down the right hand side, before cutting across the edge of the penalty area. He took aim with a left footed effort, but saw the strike fly into the arms of Seaton’s ‘keeper.

Cole Raine created a good chance for Moors on the half hour mark when he dirbbled past some challenges on the right hand side before firing a ball across goal, which was just narrowly too far ahead of the run of Jayden Knight at the far post.

The hosts opened the scoring through Bradley soon after. A low ball in from the right hand side found the number 8 in plenty of space inside the area, where he fired home past Henry Smith in the Moors net.

It was two for the hosts just four minutes later. Seaton’s Lithgo found space on the edge of the area before curling a well placed strike into the bottom left corner, before Linsel got his first of the evening just before the break though a smart finish pats the Moors ‘keeper.

The referee awarded a penalty to Seaton just 4 minutes into the second 45, which Linsel calmly slotted home into the bottom right corner, sending Smith the wrong way.

A good passage of play on the left helped Seaton find their fifth, as Lithgo’s smart ball in to the near post found Linsel waiting, who tucked home from close range to complete his hat-trick.

Butler was on hand again to deliver an assist as he drove from the halfway line to the edge of the area, before laying the ball off for the run of Goundry, who smashed home into the bottom right corner with an across goal strike.

The hosts rounded off their night with a seventh 10 minutes from time. After a scramble on the goal-line, Butler was there to tap home from close range.

A tough one to take for the young Moors yesterday, but a good opportunity and experience to play against a men’s side for the club.
