We continue our summer study on the teams joining Moors in National League North for 2025/26 and today we’re turning our focus on the resurgence of The Silkmen.
How did they get here?
Macclesfield continued their charge up the divisions by securing promotion to National League north as they were crowner NPL Premier Division champions last season.
Their elevation was confirmed as early as March when a 2-1 win over Bamber Bridge on Non-League Day set off scenes of wild celebrations among the near-5000 in attendance.
The Silkmen ended the season with an impressive 109 points having tasted defeat just three times and were some 26 points ahead of runners-up Worksop Town by the end of the campaign.
Where do they play?
Moss Rose, known as The Leasing.com Stadium, has a current capacity of 5,300 and was built back in 1891 which makes it one of the oldest grounds in the country.
The stadium, which also hosted Macclesfield Town before its liquidation in 2020, has undergone extensive renovation in recent years with over £4million invested in its upgrade.
Who is in charge?
Former Wales international Robbie Savage signed a new two-year deal last month to extend his stay in charge of The Silkmen after initially taking charge in the summer of 2024.
Savage had previously served on the Board and as Director of Football at Macclesfield but took on the management role and has prospered in the dugout during his debut season.
As a player, he came through the ranks at Manchester United before moving to Crewe Alexandra in 1994 – but it was a move to Leicester City in 1997 that really ignited his career.
A hugely competitive midfielder, Savage went on to amass over 600 professional appearances as he starred for the likes of Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and Derby County and also earned 39 caps for his country.

When did we last meet?
The 2025/26 campaign will be the first time that the two sides have met competitively.
