Glen Taylor was the hero once again as Moors took all three points from Peterborough Sports at The Brewery Field on Saturday.
The captain put away a 65th-minute penalty to get Moors back to winning ways with a battling triumph over The Turbines.
Phil Brown’s side could have gone ahead just four minutes in as Ben Beresford latched onto a loose ball from Olly Dyson. The number 33 drove towards the box before firing wastefully over the bar.
Moors went close through Taylor in the 22nd minute, as the big number 9 received the ball on the edge of the area, before shifting onto his left foot to strike. However, his curling effort was deflected wide for a corner.
There were chances at both ends as the hour mark rolled over; first through Mustapha Carayol, who saw an effort saved by Bobby Jones, before Mackenzie Heaney’s low strike met the same fate.
The last real chance of the first half came through Ethan Robson, who looked to get caught between two minds as the ball fell to his feet on the edge of the area, as he looped a shot over the bar.
The visitors did find the net just six minutes into the second half via a sweetly struck finish from Marcel Oakley into the bottom left corner, only to have his goal disallowed by the linesman’s flag for offside.
Oakley’s eye for goal didn’t let up, as he headed an effort from a corner, but saw the effort go wide.
Tom Pugh tried his luck with a first-time effort on the 62nd minute from the edge of the area, which was deflected wide by a Peterborough man.
Moors were awarded a penalty just two minutes later. Dan Jones’ long throw into the area caused commotion and led to a Turbine man handling the ball, giving the referee no other option than a spot-kick to Graeme Lee’s side.
Glen Taylor stepped up and buried the ball into the bottom right corner of the net, giving Peter Crook in the Peterborough goal no chance, as Moors took the lead.
It could’ve been two just five minutes later, as Heaney was slipped into space within the penalty area, only to see his curled effort fly just wide of the left post.
Moors really started to get on top of proceedings as the game continued, with McKeown striking the post, and Taylor having a shot deflected wide in the space of 30 seconds.
Dyson burst into the box with five minutes remaining, only to see his clipped ball towards the centre put behind for a corner. The ball was whipped into the front post, where it met Taylor, whose strike was well saved from close range.
Substitute, Cam Salkeld, had a great opportunity to seal the win deep into added time as he got in behind and stormed goalward, but saw his strike saved by Crook.
Back to winning ways for Moors – a first in five games. Focus will now shift quickly onto Tuesday night’s trip to Alfreton Town.
