Report: Moors 1 Chorley 0

An early goal from Rob Ramshaw was enough to secure a first home win since November for Moors as they overcame Chorley at The Brewery Field.

Ramshaw got the game’s only goal with a close-range effort with four minutes on the clock, before a battling second half performance secured a first victory under Tommy Miller and Matty Dolan.

Moors broke the deadlock just four minutes in when Cam Salkeld’s cross found the head of Glen Taylor. The frontman guided the ball downward and forced a decent save out of Matt Urwin, who could only parry the ball into the path of Ramshaw who pounced to fire home from close range.

The visitors had some half chances soon after, first through Tom Carr’s strike which forced a block out of Ben Beals, before Max Wilson fired high and wide of the mark.

Brad James was called into action with 24 minutes on the clock as he tipped Mark Ellis’s close-range effort onto and over the bar with a great reaction save.

Jack Sampson looked to trouble the Moors keeper just a minute later when he picked up the ball on the left of the 18-yard box and fired on goal from an awkward angle, but James was on hand again to deal with the danger.

There were a few half chances for both sides as the first half wound down, as Ramshaw narrowly missed out on a lofted ball over the top from Tyler Hill, before Carr saw a curled effort headed off the line by Tom Broadbent.

The final action of the opening period came through Corey McKeown, who took advantage of a loose ball inside the area and drilled an effort towards the bottom left corner, which forced Urwin into a brilliantly timed save down to his right.

Moors continued to push for another after the second half commenced, as McKeown darted down the left-hand side and drove toward goal, only to be taken down by a Chorley man 30-yards from goal.

Taylor got involved when he cut the ball back to the edge of the area and into the path of Sonny Sharples, who let fly with a powerful effort. However, his strike flew over the bar.

Former Moors man Adam Blakeman fired a long range free-kick on goal, only to be denied by a good save from James, who got down well to his left-hand side.

Andy Preece’s side almost got themselves on level terms when the ball fell to Ellis inside the area. The defender fired a low effort just inches wide of the mark, only for the flag to be up for offside anyway.

The impressive Sharples saw another chance go amiss when he curled an effort just over the bar from the edge of the box with 17 minutes to play, before James did well to claim a looping header at the back post.

Moors had two huge chances to finish the game off with 88 minutes on the clock, when both Taylor and Junior Mondal were denied from close range by Urwin all within the space of about 30 seconds.

Substitute Jack Griffiths took a chance with Chorley’s last attempt of the game, firing an effort from long range, only to see it go well wide of the mark, ending the evening’s action allowing Moors to celebrate a first home win in three months.
