Report: Moors 0 Bedford Town 0

Moors were forced to share the spoils at The Brewery Field as they played out a goalless draw with Bedford Town.

The Eagles thought they’d won it with just a minute of normal time remaining when Tyrone Marsh headed home beneath Brad James only to be denied by the offside flag.

Both sides had half chances early on, as Josh Castiglione saw his looping free-kick claimed, before Mackenzie Heaney’s low ball into the area was intercepted and cleared.

Junior Mondal almost put Moors ahead on the 15th minute when he connected with a whipped cross from Corey McKeown inside the area and fired an acrobatic effort towards the bottom left corner, only to see it cleared off the line.

McKeown went close himself soon after when he flicked the ball goalwards following a downward header from Glen Taylor. However, Nathan Ashmore was there to claim.

Moors came forward again just shy of the half-hour mark when Heaney’s ball into the front post found Ramshaw, who glanced a header across goal, which went narrowly wide of the mark.

Some half chances went the way of Moors as the half began to wind down, as Heaney saw his powerful effort blocked on the edge of the area, before Taylor headed over from close range.

Ashmore was on hand again to thwart Moors’ advances as he got down well to save Taylor’s low effort to end the action of the opening 45.

Both McKeown and substitute, Luke Williams, took aim from the edge of the area just after the break, but both saw their shots fail to find the back of the net.

Moors had a real chance to get themselves ahead with 65 minutes on the clock, as Heaney slipped McKeown into space on the left. The winger picked up the ball before driving towards the by-line and into the penalty area, before squaring it to Mondal, who guided an effort on goal, only for Ashmore to save.

Bedford’s first clear cut chance of the half came with 10 minutes to go, as frontman Tyrone Marsh looked to curl an effort on goal from the edge of the 18-yard box. However, he saw his strike blocked before it could pose any problems.

Rob Ramshaw looked to break the deadlock with five minutes to go as he chased down a through ball from McKeown inside the area. The midfielder looked to win the ball, only for Ashmore to get out to claim at his feet.

Lee Bircham’s side thought they’d stolen the three points in the 89th minute when a good ball into the area from the left side found an unmarked Marsh. The bagsman nodded the ball beneath the outstretched arm of James and found the back of the net, only to have the effort chalked off by the offside flag as he wheeled off in celebration.

Moors continued to push for a winner deep into stoppage time, winning a corner in the dying embers, only to see the set-piece cleared as the referee blew for full time.
