Moors boss Tommy Miller pens an update for supporters as work continues behind the scenes to get things ready for the 2026/27 National League North campaign.
Hello, everyone – and welcome back to my latest update here on the Official Website.
I know it’s not Spennymoor-related, but I have to start by talking about England’s performance in their opening game of the World Cup against Croatia on Wednesday night.
I really enjoyed watching the game. England created numerous chances during the 90 minutes and if it wasn’t for the Croatia goalkeeper putting in a Man of the Match performance, we would have been cheering a lot more than four goals!
In the second particularly, I thought the players came out with a real urgency. It was almost as if the shackles had been taken off and they were playing with a real freedom and attacking style in the final third.
If that’s what we’ve got to look forward to from England in this tournament, then I think we’re in for an exciting few weeks.
Getting back to Moors, I think it’s been a little tricky so far this summer, but the work continues behind the scenes, and we’re delighted to have brought Aiden Marsh into the Club on a deal for next season to join the signings of Louis Stephenson and Frankie Whelan.
Aiden has a good pedigree and he’s at a great age to really kick on in his career now. I feel like this move is an important one for him, and we’re delighted he’s chosen Spennymoor to give him the platform to really show what he can do in 2026/27.
We’re speaking to players all the time, we’ve met with quite a few now and it’s just about trying to get the deals over the line. It can be quite challenging because if we’re in for them, there’s a chance that there’s another three of four clubs in for them as well.
Our mission is to sell them the Club and the ambition we have here, the vision for the future. We’ve been at this level for 10 years now, so we’re well established in National League North, and we want to be challenging for those play-off spots next season.
We’re only a couple of weeks away from our return to pre-season training, not even that now, and we’re looking forward to getting the lads back in and see how they are. I’m sure they’ve been working on themselves during the summer, and they will all be raring to go so we’ll get down to business and start focusing on what we need to do.
I hope you’re continuing to enjoy your summer and we’ll see you back at The Brewery Field very soon.
Tommy.
