A Moors squad heavy on trialists suffered defeat at Heritage Park on Tuesday night as Bishop Auckland warmed up for their weekend league start with a 4-0 triumph.

Six of Moors’ starting eleven were trialists and that very quickly became seven when defender Louis Stephenson was stretchered off inside the first two minutes.

Bishops went in front just before the quarter-hour mark when the ball was swung in dangerously from the right to Gary Martin who nodded a neat headed finish into the net.

Richie Bennett had the opportunity to level things up when he was sent through on goal after some good football, but home keeper Shane Bland dashed from his line to make an excellent save.

Former Moors man Dane Burlace slipped a lovely ball down the right to set Craig Moody away into the box. His inviting cross was met by another former Moors player, Luke Williams – on trial at Heritage Park – and his diving header flew into the net off the post for 2-0.

There were chances at both ends in first half injury time as Williams almost doubled his tally with a shot just over, before Ben Beals sent a header just too high from a free kick for Moors.

Both sides made a raft of changes at the break, but it was the hosts who started the better and they went 3-0 up when Norris escaped through on goal and prodded home.

And the contest was over just past the hour when Bishops added a fourth through Jarvie to underline their superiority on the night.
