Moors Sign Finlay Holcroft On Loan

Moors have completed the signing of young defender, Finlay Holcroft from Sunderland on a one-month-loan deal.

Holcroft becomes Peter Hartley’s first signing since his appointment as the club’s First Team Manager on Tuesday evening.

The boyhood Sunderland fan recently put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the Black Cats, following a successful PL2 season. Holcroft made 17 PL2 appearances last campaign, before going on to pick up Sunderland’s U18s Player of the Year award.

Finlay recently spent time on loan at NPL Premier Division side, Whitby Town at the back end of the 2025/26 campaign, going on to make five appearances.

The England Youth International operates primarily as a Centre back, but can play anywhere across a defensive line.

Peter Hartley had this to say about Holcroft’s signing…

“Having my good relationship with John Hewitson at Sunderland, I’ve known about Fin for a while.”

“He’s been introduced to men’s football at Whitby, where he was a stand out performer.”

“When the option came to bring Fin to Spennymoor, for us it was a no brainer as he ticks all the characteristic boxes we need in this squad.”

Finlay will now link up with Peter Hartley’s side and is eligible for selection for Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Chester at The Brewery Field.
