Everyone at Spennymoor Town Football Club is deeply saddened to hear the passing of John Marr.

John was a lifelong supporter who was hugely instrumental in a number of improvements at the club.

He began supporting the club after his father took him to a game at the age of three, and he was hooked from that moment. He was a football scout as well as a fan and a sponsor. 

John was involved at all levels of the club, and as a councillor, he secured funding for the club for ground improvement works.

His daughter Sandra said: “He loved that club with a passion.”

Moors manager Jason Ainsley said: “A fantastic man who will be forever remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are with John’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“John was instrumental in Brad and myself receiving a civic award for services to the football club. Rest in peace.”
