83 days on from that heartbreaking loss on penalties in the National League North play-off final, Moors will be looking to go one better as the 2019/20 campaign commences.
Hereford provide tricky opening day opposition, with The Bulls strengthening over the summer after a season of consolidation saw them finish 17th.
Edgar Street was a happy hunting ground in 2018/19, with goals from Mark Anderson, Glen Taylor and Adam Boyes securing a comfortable 3-0 victory in late September.
Both sides have strengthened and both are regarded as potential title challengers, however, Jason Ainsley will be hoping that Moors can improve on their start from last season which heralded just three points from the first five games.
Pre-season may have ended with two defeats, but there have been plenty of positive signs over the past month. Dan Ward and James Roberts have impressed, while Nathan Buddle looks assured at the back. Both Ben McKenna and Rees Greenwood have shown flashes of brilliance, with both giving the team a new attacking dimension.
OPPOSITION
The Bulls recovered from a poor start last season to finish 17th, flirting with the relegation zone before a strong run saw them steer clear. Following the sacking of popular boss Peter Beadle in September 2018, there was always going to be a transitioning period, and after confirming their status in the league for the 2019/20 season, Hereford are looking up rather than down.
In terms of acquisitions this summer, the most eye catching is Reece Styche. The striker seems to relish playing against Spennymoor, scoring twice against Moors for two different clubs (Darlington and Alfreton) last season, adding to the opener he netted for The Quakers in April 2018.
Former Barnsley striker Bradley Ash joined this week, while Jared Hodgkiss, Jordan Nicholson, Jacob Jagger Crane, Jason Pope, Rhys Davies, Brandon Hall and Alex Bray have also made the switch to Edgar Street.
LAST TIME WE MET
Moors couldn’t replicate their stunning win at Edgar Street in March, losing 2-0 at The Brewery Field at the end of a tough month. Goals from Lance Smith and Tom Owen-Evans sent the travelling Bulls fans home happy.
STATS CENTRE
- Hereford drew 16 of their 42 league games last season, 38% of the overall season. Only Guiseley (17) had more stalemates.
- The Bulls finished the season on a six-game winless run. Their final victory of the campaign came at The Brewery Field in late March.
- Moors’ 3-0 victory in September 2018 was on their first ever visit to Edgar Street.
- Reece Styche has scored in each of his last three appearances against Spennymoor, twice for Darlington and once for Alfreton.
- Hereford earned 27 points from a possible 63 at home last season.
VIEW FROM THE PRESS BOX
Love it or loathe it, pre-season is a vital tool. Moors have enjoyed mixed results, finishing with consecutive defeats against Dunston UTS and Harrogate Town, however, commanding 6-0 and 5-0 wins over West Auckland and Stocksbridge Park Steels respectively showed the attacking options at Ainsley’s disposal this season.
The most noticeable element of pre-season in terms of tactics and the style of play is the flexibility and options for rotation. Moors played 4-2-3-1 for the majority of the 2018/19 campaign, however, with new additions offering greater depth and adaptability in attacking positions, alternative formations are likely to be utilised.
James Roberts could prove to be the perfect partner for Glen Taylor up top, with his willingness to run in behind and desire to close the ball down evident over pre-season. Ben McKenna has shown glimpses of his undoubted talent out wide, while Dan Ward’s passing range could be the key for unlocking resolute defences. All of the new lads have brought something different to an already talented squad.
Looking ahead to Saturday, it couldn’t really get much tougher than Hereford at Edgar Street on the opening day. A long journey south, coupled with a bumper crowd backing a revitalised Bulls side will certainly be a challenging start to the campaign.

TICKETS
Tickets for Saturday’s opening game against Spennymoor will be available from the Club Shop and Online from 12noon today (Monday).
Tickets will be available during the following hours this week, and then right up until kick-off from the Matchday Ticket Office (12noon-2:45pm) or Late Gate (2:45pm-3:15pm).
You can pay with cash or card at the Club Shop, Matchday Ticket Office and Late Gate.
Please note that there will be no Cash Turnstiles in operation on the Meadow End or Away End. All tickets must be purchased either in advance or on the day of the game from the Matchday Ticket Office.
ONLINE
Buy online and choose an e-ticket that will enable you to print your ticket at home, or show your ticket on your mobile device at the turnstile.
You can also buy online and choose to collect your ticket from the Club Shop or Matchday Ticket Office.
Tickets are available right up until kick-off on Saturday.

Tickets will be on sale from the Club Shop during the following hours;

MATCHDAY TICKET OFFICE
The Matchday Ticket Office will be open between 12noon – 2:45pm on Saturday.
LATE GATE
If you’re arriving late, don’t worry. The ‘Late Gate’ Ticket Office Window will be open until 3:15pm, you can then enter the stadium via Turnstile 24.
If you arrive after 3:15pm please report to Addison’s Bar to gain entry.
AWAY FANS
Away fans can buy tickets in the same way as listed above.
Away supporters are advised to park in the Council owned Merton Car Park, this is situated next to the Matchday Ticket Office. Away supporters coaches will also drop off immediately outside the Matchday Ticket Office.
The easiest way for Away Fans to purchase tickets is online in advance and choose to either print-at-home or display your e-ticket on your mobile device at the Away Turnstile.
PLEASE NOTE ALL TURNSTILES ARE CASHLESS – YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE TICKETS FROM THE MATCHDAY TICKET OFFICE, OR IN ADVANCE.
VISITING EDGAR STREET
Turnstiles open at 2pm on a Saturday.
We advise supporters to be inside the ground at least 15 minutes before kick off.
Where do I buy a ticket?
Tickets are available from the Matchday Ticket Office which is located in the corner of the Club Carpark, next to Radford’s Bar.
Do you have any family areas?
A Block in the Merton Stand is our dedicated Family Stand, we operate a zero tolerance in this stand to any foul / abusive language or aggression and anti-social behaviour.
Families are also welcome in all other parts of the ground.

There is a cash machine located next to Waitrose in the Old Market Development.
Where can I park?
Parking in close proximity to the ground can be limited on a matchday, but there are plenty of car parks within a 10-15minute walk of the ground. Click here for our guide to parking at Edgar Street.
We ask everyone visiting Edgar Street to park considerately, and to avoid parking in residential areas where possible.
If you do have to park in residential parking, please abide by any car parking enforcements, and be considerate to our neighbours.
Where is the club shop?
The Club Shop is located outside the stadium, in between Addison’s Bar and the Players Entrance.
The shop is open from 12noon on a Saturday and 6:30pm for an evening game. The shop stocks a wide range of club merchandise including hats, scarves, badges and of course replica shirts!
Where can I buy a programme?
Programmes are available to buy from programme sellers around the outside of the ground, they’ll be wearing hi-vis yellow bibs so you can’t miss them! Programmes will also be available from the Club Shop. Programmes are priced at £3.
Where can I buy food and drink?
Our Matchday Bars (Addison’s and Radford’s) sell a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well as a selection of bar snacks. You can go to these bars before entering the stadium, but we would advise you to buy your tickets first so you avoid any last minute rush at the ticket office!
There are also a number of food concessions within the stadium itself selling hot and cold drinks and a range of food.
Please note that no alcohol is allowed to be consumed within the stadium.
Can I smoke inside the ground?
Edgar Street is a non-smoking stadium.
No smoking is allowed anywhere inside the ground, this includes e-cigarettes and vaping.
