Everyone at Spennymoor Town FC is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player Ralph Wright.
Ralph’s career in the 1960’s and 70’s took him across the globe, having played for Norwich, Harlepool and Bradford (Park Avenue), Stockport and Bolton before football took him Stateside.
He played at Miami Toros, Dallas Tornado and New York Cosmos, lining up against Pele, Sir Geoff Hurst, George Best and Eusabio during his time across the pond.
He would play winters in the English League and summers in the USA, having very little rest and playing to high professional standards.
Ralph started his career with The Moors and had a second spell with the club after his cross-Atlantic adventure had come to an end. He finished his career in the North East with the likes of Gateshead, Ashington, North Shields and Whitley Bay; and became Player-Manager at Evenwood Town.
Rest in peace, Ralphy Wright.
