Spennymoor Town have landed their third new addition of the summer, securing the services of former Chorley left-back Adam Blakeman.

Moors supporters will be no stranger to the marauding left-footer, having witnessed some memorable games against The Magpies in the last two years, including the dramatic late Glen Taylor winner at The Brewery Field and the heartbreak of the National League North Play-off Final in 2018/19.

The 28-year-old started his career with Bolton Wanderers at youth level, before moving on to play for Hyde in the Conference Premier and Conference North in 2013/14.

He then moved North of the border to play in Scottish League One for Ayr United before returning to the rebranded National League with Southport in 2015/16.

One year later he made the switch to Chorley and has spent four seasons with The Magpies, recording high appearances and impressive statistics consistently.

Blakeman is adept at playing higher up the pitch and is capable of operating on the left of midfield, as well as his natural left-back.  This is exemplified by some notable goals returns for a defender.  In 2018/19 he scored once in every four games, netting nine times in 36 appearances in the season Chorley were promoted to the National League.

The Moors lost one of their dead ball specialists this summer when fellow left-back Stephen Brogan left the club, but Blakeman is a ready-made replacement and many of his goals are registered from free kicks.

Blakeman visited The Brewery Field last week to witness the improvements at the ground and meet with Jason Ainsley.

He said: “After speaking with the Manager and a few others at the club, and being shown around, I knew this was the place for me to come and play.

“Spennymoor is a club that is moving in the right direction both on and off the pitch and I’m delighted to be a part of it.

“I’ve had some good battles with Spennymoor over the last few years and I know how good they can be, so I’m looking forward to being on the other side of that.

“I can’t wait to get going and see what next season brings.”

Ainsley was equally delighted with the capture of the National League quality left-back.

He said: “Adam is a player we have admired for a few season now, having come across him many times when playing against Chorley.

“He adds real quality to the team we are building for next season.

“His defensive knowledge, coupled with his delivery from wide areas and set pieces are of a very high standard.

“He knows what it takes to achieve promotion from the division and we look forward to seeing him pull on the Spennymoor Town shirt.”
