Saturday’s National League North fixture against Chester has been postponed as a mark of respect following the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

Football fixtures across the country will not go ahead following the news on Thursday that Queen Elizabeth II had passed away at the age of 96 following a 70-year reign.

“The thoughts of everyone at Spennymoor Town are with The Royal Family at this incredibly sad time,” commented Moors General Manager, Ian Geldard.

“We join the entire nation in mourning Her Majesty’s passing and pay tribute to the extraordinary service she gave over the past seven decades.”

The National League issued a statement on Friday morning to confirm the postponement of all fixtures across the National League system.

“The decision to postpone this weekend’s fixtures is taken in line with guidance from the FA in consultation with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The League fully supports this stance,” the statement read.

Tickets for Saturday’s game will remain valid for the re-arranged date, of which details will be confirmed in due course.
