There was huge a amount of fun for children from schools across the local area on Thursday as Moors in the Community hosted their annual National League Tournament.

Girls and boys from Ox Close, North Park, Toft Hill, Tudhoe Colliery and West Cornforth competed at the event, which was held at Spennymoor Youth & Community Centre.

The prestigious competition gives the winners the opportunity to go on and represent Spennymoor Town in the Regional Finals against the likes of Darlington, Blyth Spartans and York City – and even the chance to represent the North East if they progress further.

Blustery conditions did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the teams as they all played each other once before the top two teams played each other to decide the overall winner.

In the end, it was Ox Close Boys and North Park Girls who came out on top as they both beat their rivals from Toft Hill in the Finals.

“I would like to thank all the schools who took up the invitation to join us at our National League Tournament,” said Moors’ Community Development Manager, Luke Cowie.

“It was fantastic to see so many youngsters given the chance to play football and I want to wish everyone from Ox Close and North Park all the best in the next stage.

“I also want to thank Laura and Paula who came down to help us organise the event, Courtney Mole who refereed for us, and everyone from Spennymoor Youth & Community Centre for hosting us.”

The Regional Finals are set to take place in March.
