Moors Ladies will be determined to take another step closer to promotion on Sunday when they make the trip to face Norton & Stockton Ancients Reserves in NERWFL Northern (2pm kick-off).

League-leading Moors took three points last weekend, albeit not in the way they would’ve hoped after Thornaby were unable to field a side and therefore forfeited the game.

This weekend the task in hand will be no easier as the Ladies travel to Teesside to take on Norton & Stockton Ancients Reserves in what is expected to be another very competitive fixture.

With Norton being one of the few sides that can still mathematically get promoted, this game is key to Moors as they look to get across the line. Whilst Billy Shackleton’s side have a nice cushion, any drop-off in form could still cost so but victory at Norton could take them within a game of promotion.

“The game on Sunday is so important for us,” admitted boss Shackleton.

“Three points will really change the way we look at the table. A win takes Norton and Hartlepool out of the promotion race, and it allows us to focus on ourselves rather than have to worry about other teams.”

Shackleton will have a strong squad to select from at the weekend, with the majority of his players available. Holly Middleton and Courtney Mole, who were both carrying injuries, have benefited from a blank weekend to enjoy some extra rest and the duo are expected to return to contention.

“Norton played really well against us last time,” added Shackleton.

“They’ve got some top players who can affect the game, but what I will say is that we played them during a poor run of form for us at the time.

“I’m not taking anything away from Norton because they are a good side, but I do believe we can get the better of them on Sunday and walk away with the victory.”

Supporters are welcome to cheer Moors on at Norton on Sunday, with the game kicking-off at 2pm at Norton Sports Complex on Station Road where admission is free for all.
