Moors got their pre-season campaign off to a winning start on Thursday evening when they ran out 3-0 winners over Whickham at The First Mortgage Glebe Ground.
Jamie Chandler’s men were good value for their win as goals from Rob Ramshaw, Danny Greenfield and Corey McKeown did the damage during a competitive affair on Tyneside.
The Moors boss was able to take a look at the majority of his squad, with only Lebrun Mbeka and Reece Staunton unable to feature, while a host of youth players were also given the chance to impress.
Glen Taylor, looking sharp from the off, almost opened the scoring with just three minutes gone when he instinctively turned on to a bouncing ball and volleyed on goal only to see his goalbound shot turned over the bar.
However, on seven minutes it was 1-0 to Moors. A neat move saw the ball worked out to the right-hand side for Keenan Ferguson who delivered in inviting cross into the middle which was clinically nodded home by Ramshaw.
Taylor drew another good stop from the Whickham keeper with a low drive before the hosts forced James Montgomery into a full-length save at the other end as he leapt to parry a long-range shot.
Sam Fielding flashed an effort just wide from the edge of the box before Taylor almost scored an extraordinary goal from the halfway line only to see his opportunist effort kiss the bar on its way over.
The game became a little scrappier after the break as Moors changed their full eleven and the home side also began to ring the changes, but Moors did double their lead on 66 minutes when a brilliant run from Connor Shanks saw him put the second goal on a plate for Greenfield.
Callum Ross smashed a ferocious shot just too high from distance before McKeown made sure of the victory in the final minute when he curled the ball beyond the keeper after escaping in behind the Whickham defence.
