Glen Taylor was on target twice as Moors ran out comfortable 5-0 winners in their last pre-season friendly encounter at Newton Aycliffe on Tuesday night.
Jamie Chandler’s side were in control for the most part at The SecuriCorp Stadium and enjoyed a big victory thanks to Taylor’s brace and other goals from Connor Shanks, Mark Anderson and Will Harris.
After a quiet start to proceedings, Moors moved in front on 16 minutes thanks to some wonderful play from Shanks. He picked up a loose ball midway inside the Aycliffe half before driving towards the edge of the box and planting a brilliant shot into the bottom left corner of the net.
The home side rallied and enjoyed a good spell around the half-hour mark but Moors increased their lead six minutes before the break when Anderson whipped a superb free-kick over the wall and into the top corner for 2-0.
And on the stroke of half time Moors made it three. A clever flick round the corner from Rob Ramshaw sent Shanks into the left side of the box and he squared intelligently for Harris to convert.
After ringing the changes at the break, Moors couldn’t find their rhythm immediately and the game became a little scrappier, though Taylor came close with a header after some more good football from Chandler’s men.
The fourth goal did arrive 15 minutes from time when Shanks was found on the right side and he sent across a teasing cross which was forced home at the back by Taylor.
Taylor got his second three minutes from the end when Shanks was again the architect, scampering clear down the left before laying a ball right into the path of the Moors front man to finish.
