Moors Ladies have moved to further strengthen their squad ahead of the 2023/24 NERWFL Premier Division season with the signing of influential midfielder Shannon Reed.
The 23-year-old becomes the Ladies Team’s fifth signing of the summer and brings experience from a higher level having joined from established National League outfit, Norton & Stockton Ancients.
A hard-working central midfielder who is composed in possession and covers plenty of ground, her arrival marks another good piece of business from Moors Ladies boss, Billy Shackleton.
“I am delighted that Shannon has chosen to sign for us this season,” Shackleton admitted.
“Her experience in the National League will undoubtedly be a huge asset for us in our first season at a higher level having been promoted into the Premier Division.
“Shannon has clear ability and talent, and I have no doubt that she can be one of the best midfielders in the division – now our job is to make sure she has the platform to keep on improving.
“I think it’s another signing which shows that the hard work we’re putting in is paying off because Moors Ladies are now attracting some of the best female talent in the North East.”
Reed, who began her senior career playing for Durham First Team Reserves when she was just 16, is just as excited by the challenge that lies ahead having put pen to paper at The Brewery Field.
“I have watched with interest as Spennymoor enjoyed their back-to-back promotions to get to the level they’re at now and I am excited to be part of it,” she told us.
“That gives me the motivation to come and do everything I can to help the Club get promoted again in the upcoming season.
“All the girls have been very welcoming. I already know of a few of them from previous clubs so it’s nice to be able to play alongside them in 2023/24.”
Reed follows in the footsteps of Beth Enguita, Sophie Miller, Neve Jackson and Caitlin Bates in joining Moors Ladies this summer following their promotion last term.
