Moors Ladies will aim to continue their 100% start to the new campaign on Sunday but know they face potentially their biggest test as they host Alnwick Town at The Brewery Field (2pm kick-off).

Billy Shackleton’s side are joint top of the NERWFL Premier Division table alongside Sunderland West End after picking up nine points from nine so far during a wonderful opening to 2023/24.

Moors have often done it the hard way so far, twice coming from behind to win at Redcar Town last weekend to finally claim three points in a thrilling 3-2 win.

And Shackleton’s battling outfit also won 3-2 when they last played at The Brewery Field a fortnight ago when they fought back from 2-0 down against Hull United to clinch three points.

However, Alnwick finished second in the Premier Division last term and have also made an unbeaten start to the fresh campaign so they will arrive in County Durham high on confidence themselves.

“They were up there last year, and we know they’re a very good football team,” said Shackleton ahead of this Sunday’s encounter at The Brewery Field.

“When we tried to analyse the teams in this division during pre-season, Alnwick were definitely one we thought would be up there challenging, so we’re not surprised they’ve made a strong start.

“That’s where I think the fans who come and get behind us at The Brewery Field can help us gain an edge and hopefully drive the girls on to another positive result.”

Centre-back Alice Welch-Davison, who scored twice in the dramatic win over Hull, will miss Sunday’s game through suspension after she was sent-off in last weekend’s victory at Redcar.

However, influential forward Autumn Colledge could be in line for a return after missing out last weekend with a head injury sustained against Hull.
