Moors Ladies are back on the road on Sunday when they make the trip to take on Wakefield in the NERWFL Premier Division at Woodkirk Academy (2pm kick-off).
The weekend fixture represents the first league meeting of the season between the two teams, though they did face-off in the FA Cup back in October when Moors ran out 2-1 winners.
The West Yorkshire outfit have had a mixed time so far in 2023/24 and have not been in competitive action since mid-December when they enjoyed a 6-0 thumping of Hartlepool United.
Moors boss Billy Shackleton will be keen for his own side to get back to their best, particularly following a sore 4-2 defeat away at league-leaders Sunderland West End last weekend.
“It’s been tough for us recently having suffered that defeat on Sunday and also coming through a longer than expected Christmas break,” Shackleton conceded.
“We know what Wakefield are about. They’re a good side who will be organised and make it difficult for us, so we’ll have to put together a good performance if we want to beat them again.
“They play a nice brand of football so it should be an excellent game but hopefully we can come out on top and really kickstart our 2024 as we move into the second half of the season.”
Winger Beth Enguita is set to hand Shackleton a boost by declaring herself fit for contention after battling back from an ankle injury, while Autumn and Coral Colledge should both return for Moors too.
However, defender Julia McGovern will not be available for selection on Sunday and last weekend’s two-goal striker Abi Kisby will also be missing for the encounter with Wakefield.
The game takes place at Woodkirk Academy on Rein Road in Wakefield and fans are welcome to attend and cheer Moors on or look out for updates across social media.
