Moors Ladies will look to build on last weekend’s fine away win when they hit the road once again to take on Alnwick Town in the NERWFL Premier Division on Sunday (2.45pm kick-off).
Billy Shackleton’s side were 3-0 winners at Wakefield to stay fifth in the table and now their attentions will switch to Sunday as they look to keep pressure on those above them.
Having defeated Alnwick 2-0 thanks to goals from Caitlin Bates and Katy Hemmingway earlier in the campaign, the Ladies will have eyes on a league double over the Northumberland outfit on Sunday.
However, despite taking the points in that September contest at The Brewery Field, Shackleton is wary of the threat posed by this weekend’s opposition and does not want his players to take anything for granted.
“Alnwick are one of the best sides we’ve faced all season,” he insisted.
“We found the game against them really tough and, looking back, either side could have taken three points that day.
“I would say Alnwick probably aren’t having the season they had hoped to have this year, but I know what a good team they are – and they’re one we can’t afford to underestimate.
“I feel like we always step up when we face the tougher opponents, and we expect a really competitive game on Sunday, so I am looking forward to it.”
Shackleton has a strong squad to choose from ahead of the fixture, though centre-back Neve Jackson is a notable absentee and skipper Alex Saunders is also unavailable this weekend.
The fixture is being staged at the home of Alnwick Town Juniors and will kick-off at the slightly later time of 2.45pm. Fans are welcome to attend the game or you can follow on Moors Ladies’ social media channels.
