We’re delighted to be hosting a launch of Amazon’s latest best seller, No-Brainer, at this Saturday’s pre-season friendly against York City at The Brewery Field.
The insightful new book has been penned by well-known local journalist and author, Mike Amos and is the inspiring story of former Spennymoor and Middlesbrough footballer Bill Gates.
As part of Saturday’s launch event at the stadium, fans will have the chance to meet Mike and take part in a Q&A session with Nick, a Head Safe Football Trustee and Education Leader.
Mike and Nick will be stationed within our Sports Bar on Saturday from 2pm, with the Q&A session likely to take place at around 2.30pm.
Head Safe Football is a unique charity set up to focus on football related brain disease and provide emotional and practical support, evidence-based knowledge and up-to-date research for all footballers and their families.
Bill, who began his football with Spennymoor before going on to become a legend at Boro, sadly died last October following a diagnosis of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease.
His wife Judith made a promise to her husband to do all she could to help others and the charity was formed on the back of that, with The Brewery Field hosting two trailblazing no-heading exhibition matches in 2021 and 2022.
Now Bill’s story and legacy is being brought to life by Mike Amos in this new book and Moors fan will have a chance to find out more and get their hands on a copy at Saturday’s match.
