Versatile attacker Holly Doogan has become Moors Ladies’ seventh signing of the summer as Billy Shackleton continued his squad-building ahead the new campaign.
The 21-year-old kicked-off her playing days with Lumley Ladies and Chester-le-Street United before moving on to Northumbria University First Team.
Her form there attracted the attention of Newcastle United and she was part of the Development Squad which won the FA Women’s National League Reserve Northern Division last term.
Always positive in possession and blessed with good pace and plenty of strength, Doogan also knows where the net is and arrives at The Brewery Field with an excellent scoring record.
“Spennymoor are a team I have kept an eye on for a while now and seeing how well they have done recently makes this an exciting Club to join,” Doogan explained.
“Speaking with Billy and Brent (Smithson, Assistant Manager), it became clear that they have really high aspirations and that’s something I really want to be part of.
“I know a few of the girls already from previous clubs, so I am really looking forward to setting in and becoming part of the set-up here.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to come in and play alongside a talented group and develop as a player while also helping Spennymoor achieve their goals.”
Doogan’s signing adds yet more competition for places in the attacking third for Moors as they look to build on last term’s impressive runners-up spot in NERWFL Premier Division in 2024/25.
“I am delighted to have been able to bring Holly in,” admitted boss Shackleton.
“She’s an excellent player who has experience at a high level over a number of years despite only being 21 and she’s someone who had a great future.
“She can play up front or out wide, which gives us more attacking options and I have been really impressed with her movement and hold-up play to bring others into the game.
“She also gets into positions to score goals and she’s a clinical finisher, so I am pleased she’s signed and I feel like she’s a perfect fit for Spennymoor.”
