UKEM Boost For Moors’ Community Projects

Moors in the Community have enjoyed another productive summer, providing a range of programmes to directly benefit people of all ages in Spennymoor and the local area.

Founded back in 2022, Moors in the Community has become one of the most admired community organisations in County Durham having consistently delivered highly impactful projects.

They have been able to further enhance their portfolio over the summer thanks to the ongoing support of Procure Smart and the fantastic investment from new principal sponsors, UK Energy Management.

Record numbers of youngsters were attracted to our hugely popular Holiday Camps over the summer, with an ambitious plan to host three weekly sessions through July and into August proving extremely successful.

Almost 100 children enjoyed football sessions during the Programme but were also given the opportunity to participate in a wide range of other sports, including basketball, dodgeball, obstacle courses and other Olympic-themed games.

The regular Holiday Camps have gained a big reputation in the local area and planning is already underway to ensure that our next instalment of events prove just as popular with youngsters.

Elsewhere, Moors in the Community have been able to further expand their flagship Community Meals Programme which now delivers hot food to residents across three days every single week.

Nutritious meals are freshly prepared at The Brewery Field and delivered around the town and surrounding areas by our team of dedicated volunteer drivers, making a big difference to dozens of people in need.

UKEM’s backing has also contributed to the growth of our Friday Night Football project which now regularly attracts around 70 young people aged between 7 and 18 to enjoy playing the beautiful game at Whitworth Park Academy.

At the other end of the scale, there was success for our Over 60s Walking Football Team when they were crowned champions of Durham County FA Division Two in 2024/25 and they will look forward to testing their skills at a higher level in the new campaign.

We’re providing more opportunities than ever before for people to try Walking Football with sessions open to men and women taking place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

This broad range of outreach has only been possible due to the incredible generosity of UK Energy Management who have backed us to keep on delivering enviable service to local people from the heart of the community at The Brewery Field.
