New Moors Ladies boss Brent Smithson has strengthened his management team with the addition of Damian Shanahan as First Team Coach.
Smithson took over as the Manager of our Ladies Team earlier in the month and guided his side to an impressive 4-1 win over Hull United during his first official game in charge.
Now he’s bolstered his backroom set-up with the arrival of Shanahan who will support Smithson on the training pitch and in the dugout on matchdays.
“Damian is an experienced and knowledgeable coach, and I am really pleased he has agreed to join the Club,” Smithson told us.
“He’s already started having some really positive input over recent weeks and I am looking forward to working with him throughout the season.”
Shanahan will work as First Team Coach with Moors Ladies alongside his existing role as Assistant Coach with England Women’s Amputee squad.
He has also previously operated as a coach with Durham City Men’s Team, whilst he was also previously Assistant Coach at Middlesbrough Ladies Reserves and Head Coach at Durham Cestria Reserves.
“When the opportunity arose to work with Spennymoor Town Ladies I jumped at it,” Shanahan explained.
“As a local lad who has lived in Spennymoor for the past 15 years, I have always admired the set-up here and the progress made, especially in recent seasons.
“I know how well the side has performed in gaining promotion and being very competitive at the higher level so it’s clearly a Club heading in one direction.
“The girls are a fantastic group and it’s been a pleasure working alongside the rest of the backroom staff so I’m excited to be part of it and hopefully we can have another enjoyable campaign.”
Moors Ladies set their focus on the Women’s FA Cup this weekend when they host Rutherford in Second Round Qualifying at The Brewery Field on Sunday.
The game kicks-off at 2pm and admission is just £3 for adults and completely free for all those who are under 12. Fans can pay on the turnstiles using cash or card or buy in advance online right now – click here.
