Moors Ladies will hit the Women’s FA Cup trail again on Sunday afternoon when they host SJR Worksop in the final round of qualifying at The Brewery Field (2pm kick-off).
Brent Smithson’s side have their eyes firmly fixed on a place in the First Round Proper for the second season in succession but know they can’t take anything for granted this weekend.
Visitors Worksop play their football in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division, which is at the same level of the pyramid as Moors.
However, confidence is high within the Moors camp on the back of three league wins out of four, with Smithson’s girls underlining their growing belief with a 6-0 thrashing of Harrogate last time out.
Moors needed penalties to get past Gateshead Rutherford in the last round of the FA Cup at The Brewery Field and they will be hoping that home advantage can help give them the edge again on Sunday.
“As with any FA Cup tie, we’re expecting a really tough game,” admitted Smithson.
“We’ve picked up some real momentum in the last few weeks though, and I was really pleased with the nature of our performance in last Sunday’s win at Harrogate.
“We don’t know a great deal about Worksop, but we know they play at the same level as we do so we’ll show them respect but also try to get on the front foot and set the tone.
“I think we always fancy our chances no matter who we’re playing when we are at The Brewery Field and hopefully we can have another big and vocal crowd this weekend.”
Smithson is set to be without Amy Elliott who is nursing an injury, while Lucy McIntosh will have her fitness assessed in the coming days as she races to be fit in time.
Influential utility player Alex Saunders is back in contention though and Katy Hemmingway is also hoping to be available to take her place in the squad.
Admission is just £3 for adults and completely free for all those under 12 on Sunday with supporters able to pay by cash or card on the turnstiles.
