Moors Ladies saw their run in the Women’s FA Cup come to a shuddering halt on Sunday as National League outfit Burnley ran out comfortable winners.
The Clarets, who have been beaten only once in their league so far this season, proved too powerful for Moors on the day and thumped home 12 unanswered goals.
Brent Smithson’s side defended with stubbornness in the opening stages, but Burnley got their breakthrough on 14 minutes and by half time the hosts were 3-0 up.
The Clarets continued to dominate after the break and their extra fitness became a real factor as time wore on and the punishment kept on coming for Moors.
To their credit, Moors kept their heads up and showed character despite the harshness of the defeat with keeper Sophie Miller handed the Player of the Match award after a series of stunning saves prevented an even heavier defeat.
A travelling band of Moors supporters did their best to lift the players at the full time whistle and remind them of the great achievement of reaching the First Round Proper of the Women’s FA Cup for the second season in succession.
