Moors To Pay Remembrance Day Respects

We’re delighted to confirm that 8th Battalion The Rifles will return to The Brewery Field on Saturday as part of our activity to mark this year’s Remembrance Day.

Spennymoor Town and Curzon Ashton players, staff and supporters will unite ahead of kick-off in this weekend’s National League North fixture to honour and remember those who served and sacrificed for our country.

As part of our commemorations, the Club is once again pleased to offer FREE entry to Saturday’s game for all service personnel on production of their military identification, while entry will be reduced to £5 for Veterans.

Moors’ Managing Director Ian Geldard will join Major Bob Towers and Curzon Ashton Chairman John Clayton in laying wreaths in the centre circle before The Last Post is performed by Spennymoor Town Band’s principal cornet player, Abigail Davison.

“We’re delighted to once again welcome 8 Rifles along to The Brewery Field and continue the excellent relationship we’ve built up in recent years,” said Geldard.

“As ever, it will be an honour to have them at their heart of our Remembrance Day commemorations and welcoming Spennymoor Town Band joining us too is fantastic.

“We feel privileged to be able to provide our supporters and those making the trip from Curzon Ashton with an opportunity to show their respects to those who gave so much.

“We would politely ask all fans to take up their positions in the stadium a little earlier than usual on Saturday in order to play a full part in the Club’s commemorations.”

The Rifles was formed in February 2007 through an amalgamation of Light Infantry and Rifle Regiments, including the Durham Light Infantry, and is the largest infantry regiment in the British Army.

The 8th Battalion is the newest in the British Army Reserve having been formed five years ago, with headquarters in Bishop Auckland and outstations in Durham and Sunderland, as well as in Yorkshire and Shropshire.
