Moors Academy side got back to winning ways on Wednesday afternoon when they produced an outstanding performance to beat Barnsley at Southwick.
Matty Dolan’s youngsters were keen to bounce back following their 3-2 loss at Bradford (Park Avenue) last week and they showed their intent from the off against The Tykes.
The game was only 12 minutes old when Moors went in front as Ollie Griffiths arrived on cue to slot home a neat finish and make it 1-0 to the home side.
Dolan’s men continued to press forward, and it wasn’t long before they doubled their lead when Leighton Hope capitalised on some defensive hesitation to make it 2-0 on 20 minutes.
While Moors dominated the first half, Barnsley came out fighting after the break. Their efforts paid off when they pulled a goal back and shifted the momentum of an absorbing encounter.
Moors tried to recover their composure, but the visitors kept up the pressure and they found a way through to level things up at 2-2 with just over 15 minutes left to play.
It looked as though both sides would have to settle for a point as full time approached, only for Griffiths to step up and grab his second of the game to snatch victory for Moors.
“I am pleased for the lads to get the win because they worked ever so hard,” Dolan told us afterwards.
“We could have let our heads drop completely after losing the two-goal lead in the second half, but we showed great character and that really impressed me.
“It was good to get back on track after the loss last week and now the lads can hopefully take confidence from that and really kick-on in the season.”
