Moors Academy Team got back to winning ways on Wednesday afternoon when they battled for all three points away at Ultimate Football Coaching Academy in Leeds.
Matty Dolan’s youngsters were keen to offer a response after being on the wrong end of a heavy defeat at the hands of Hebburn Town seven days ago, and they delivered in abundance.
Moors began the game in determined fashion and could have been in front inside eight minutes when Ollie Griffiths almost capitalised on a defensive mistake from the hosts.
However, Dolan’s side had to remain patient in chasing the breakthrough and it finally arrived just before the half-hour when Hayden Oakes produced a wonderful, curling effort from the edge of the box to make it 1-0.
Leighton Hope could have made it 2-0 shortly afterwards when he scampered on to a brilliant through ball from Ethan Docherty, but the UFCA keeper did enough to put him off by dashing from his line to narrow the angle.
Moors remained on the front foot at the start of the second half and could have doubled their lead when Archie Dodds’ superb free-kick from 30 yards wasn’t held by the keeper, but Griffiths fired the rebound narrowly wide.
However, Archie Dodds did get his goal deeper into the second period when he again tried his luck from a dead ball which he expertly curled around the wall and into the net for 2-0.
The hosts set up a nervy finish when they pulled a goal back 10 minutes from time, but Moors stayed resolute and organised to clinch the three points.
“The lads showed brilliant character to get that win,” said Dolan afterwards.
“Every one of them really stood up after last week’s setback and they had to really dig in towards the end to see it over the line.
“It was a real team performance and a deserved victory. We could have scored more goals but the fight they showed throughout was fantastic and that was what pleased me most.”
