Moors Ladies Back At Home On Sunday

Moors Ladies will return to NERWFL Premier Division action on Sunday when they host Ponteland United at The Brewery Field (2pm kick-off).

Brent Smithson’s side were left frustrated last weekend when their planned trip to Hull United fell victim to the weather and saw them fall further behind in their league schedule.

However, Durham FA have acted swiftly to reschedule their fixture with Ponteland for this weekend as Moors look to catch up having played at least two games less than all of their rivals due to an extended FA Cup run and postponements.

This weekend’s visitors were promoted from the Northern Division as runners-up last term and have enjoyed a strong start to life in the top flight, sitting third in the table after winning four of their nine games so far.

“Ponteland have started really well after promotion so we can’t take Sunday’s game lightly in any way,” insisted Smithson.

“The tempo and intensity of our play during the first half of our last game against Chester-le-Street Town was excellent.

“The challenge now is that we need to try and perform to that level across a full 90 minutes, and that’s what I will be asking from the girls this weekend.”

Smithson is continuing to battle against a long injury list ahead of Sunday’s game with Aimee Steele the latest to be ruled out for six weeks, joining Lucy McIntosh, Brooke Newton and Autumn Colledge in the treatment room.

After the postponement last weekend, long-serving Moors player Hannah Know will hope to make her 100th appearance the Club in Sunday’s fixture.

Admission on Sunday is just £3 for adults and completely free for all those aged under 12 and the turnstiles will accept card or cash payments.
