Moors hit Rushall Olympic for SEVEN as they ran away with all three points after an explosive second half performance at the Brewery Field
Hat-tricks from both Glen Taylor and Corey McKeown, as well as a thunderous effort from Rob Ramshaw, saw Moors thump National League North strugglers Rushall Olympic.
The Pics arrived in County Durham on the back of a three-game winning streak which had taken them to the brink of climbing out of the bottom four, but they were ruthlessly torn apart by Graeme Lee’s men on a memorable afternoon for Moors fans.
Taylor almost put Moors ahead within the opening minute when his shot deflected wide and out for a corner kick, before The Pics ran up the other end and troubled Brad James.
Neither side had any real chances in the opening 15; Liam McAlinden wasted an effort for the visitors, before Sam McLintock blazed wide from range.
Moors finally got into gear and found the opening goal on 16 minutes. Some good football down the right-hand side saw loanee Olly Dyson weave towards the box and float a cross brilliantly to Taylor, who expertly headed home into the top corner.
Lee’s side almost let the lead slip just minutes later, however, as they made a meal of playing out from the back. The ball bounced around in the box before falling to Jack Thomas, who struck a clean effort into the base of the upright.
McKeown set up the dangerous Junior Mondal on the edge of the box, but his curled effort flew agonisingly wide of the post as Moors looked to get back on the front foot.
The Pics almost grabbed an equaliser out of nothing soon after when McAlinden seized on some loose play from Moors and fired a strong effort against the far post.
They came forward again soon after, but this time Kian Ryley’s shot bobbled just wide of the mark via a touch from James and the outside of the post.
Despite their pressure, Richard Sneekes men couldn’t find an equaliser, and went into the half time break 1-0 down.
Moors opened the second half excitingly, as Mondal slipped McKeown in behind, his shot however, was well saved by Paul White in the opposition net, who had darted out to meet the winger.
It was just two minutes later that McKeown finally found the back of the net. The winger drove into the box from the left-hand side, cut across his man and fired home into the bottom right-hand corner to grab his first of the season.
It was at this point that Moors started to run away with the fixture. The strong defence they had met in the first half finally began to crumble, with Taylor grabbing his second of the afternoon courtesy of a huge deflection as he turned to fire on goal after great work from Rob Ramshaw.
Graeme Lee’s men were not done there. McKeown sprang into action to add a fourth to the scoreline in the 57th minute. Mondal intelligently spun around a defender, before playing a brilliant ball over to the left, dropping perfectly into McKeown’s path. The youngster skipped inside of the defence and slotted home, grabbing his second of the game.
Things just kept getting worse for the visitors, as Moors captain Taylor completed his treble just four minutes later. Ramshaw drove across and into the box before playing the ball to Taylor, who prodded home to take him just three goals away from breaking the 200-goal mark of his Spennymoor career.
Rushall tried their best to get back into the game, with manager Sneekes changing four of his men within 10 minutes of the fifth goal, but it was to no avail, as Moors kept up their ruthless football.
The huge scoreline also gave Moors the chance to bring on new face Mitch Hancox for his debut after joining the Club from Chester earlier in the week.
Provider turned to scorer on the 77th minute as Ramshaw cut across the box, thundering a shot off the underside of the crossbar and into the back of the net. Moors certainly were not feeling sorry for the visitors this afternoon.
The chances just kept on coming, as Ramshaw again got himself into a good pocket of space, this time however, White was able to get down low to prevent any further damage.
The Pics had endured six goals so far and looked to try and give their travelling supporters at least something to take away as they drove forward. However, a cross into the box, their first real half chance of the second half, was claimed well and low by James.
There was no let up for the visitors though, and Moors grabbed another in the 93rd minute. McKeown completed his hat-trick. This time he danced into the box and drilled home into the bottom left-hand corner past White and complete the visitors’ misery.
An emphatic and professional victory for Moors, who have now been given a brilliant confidence booster for their upcoming schedule, including their huge FA Trophy Round of 16 tie against Boston United in a fortnight.
