Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley were appointed as the new First Team Managers at Spennymoor Town in December 2021, following the departure of Tommy Miller.
The experienced duo fought off competition from several other strong candidates to land the job at The Brewery Field having previously been in charge together at Ramsbottom United, Salford City and Chester.
Hailing from Bury, Johnson and Morley kicked off their management careers with Ramsbottom in 2009 where they had previously been on the books as players.
Success arrived quickly at Ramsbottom as they oversaw the club’s highest ever finishing position and smashed a number of long-standing records before securing a momentous double promotion which saw the Greater Manchester outfit clinch a place in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Their eye-catching performance earned them a high-profile move to Salford in January 2015, a club which had recently been taken over by the Class of 92 and with big ambitions to challenge for EFL football.
Under Johnson and Morley’s guidance, The Ammies embarked on a memorable FA Cup adventure which took them all the way to Round Two, via a televised giant-killing of League Two side, Notts County.
As well as that, City won 15 of their last 17 games to pip Darlington to the title and claim and add a second promotion to the Northern Premier League Premier Division to their blossoming CVs.
Another two promotions followed as the duo dragged City up the pyramid, leaving the club as a National League member before their departure was announced in the summer of 2018.
The pair re-emerged in charge of Chester later that year and went on to spend four years in the hotseat as they helped the club stabilize following relegation from the National League and look to move towards a return to the higher level.
However, they parted company with Chester in November 2021, leaving the path clear for Moors to bring them to The Brewery Field as the club’s new management team.
