Jordan Boon joins Spennymoor Town

Spennymoor Town has completed the signing of former Bolton Wanderers defender Jordan Boon.

Boon, 19, has been on trial with the club during pre-season and has impressed Manager Jason Ainsley enough to secure a contract.

The central defender has spent the majority of his career with The Trotters, making his way through the clubs Academy before he broke into the first team at the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

Boon was an unused sub when Wanderers drew 0-0 with Coventry City in August 2019 – the youngest squad in Bolton’s history – before making three league and one EFL Cup appearances.

I have heard great things about the club, players and the manager.

He was loaned out to Northern Premier League side Atherton Collieries by Manager Keith Hill later in the season but only made one appearance before returning to his parent club.

The defender officially left the Whites in mid-March to sign for Ostersund IFK, however, injury problems and the Covid-19 pandemic meant he didn’t feature for the Swedish side.

Boon was in high spirits as he sat down with Moors TV. He said: “I chose to make the move to Spennymoor because I have heard great things about the club, players and the manager.

“I spoke with Jason a couple of weeks ago as pre-season was getting underway and he wanted me training with the squad so he could take a look at me.

“I first met him at the ground and I was amazed at the facilities and the set-up. The pitch looked unbelievable and shows the level the club want to be at.

“Spennymoor has big ambitions and I want to be a part of the progression with the current group of players and staff. I have been welcomed in by everyone and I can’t wait to get going.”

Manager Jason Ainsley believes Boon will provide Moors with natural balance on the left hand side of the defence.

He said: “Jordan is a young lad with Football League experience at Bolton Wanderers, and we were keen to get him along to pre-season training so we could get a closer look at him.

“He has impressed us over the last month and he is a great asset in terms of providing natural balance on the left of defence. He will undoubtedly add strength to our back line.

“We all wish him well during his time at Spennymoor Town.”
