McLean becomes a Moor

Scottish forward Scott McLean is the latest addition to Jason Ainsley’s squad ahead of the 2020/21 season.

McLean, 23, has played his entire career in his native Scotland with the likes of Kilmarnock, Albion Rovers and Queens Park.

He made his professional debut with Killie in a 2-2 draw with Celtic in August 2015 as an 18-year-old, before joining West of Scotland Premier League club Troon F.C.

I have a great desire to win and I am here to help Spennymoor achieve their goals this season and beyond.

Following a season with Annan Atheltic, McLean moved to his previous club, Darvel, where he joined in August 2020.

McLean discussed his move to the club with Moors TV. He said: “It was a no brainer to sign for the club. It’s a great opportunity to showcase myself at an ambitious team in a top league full of quality.

“When I first became aware that Spennymoor were interested I immediately knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. The investment, facilities and long term plans show me that the only place the club is going is up.

“In terms of my playing style, I would say I am a creative player who can play in a number of positions and can chip in with my fair share of goals and assists.

“I have a great desire to win and I am here to help Spennymoor achieve their goals this season and beyond.”

Jason Ainsley feels McLean will prove to be an exciting addition to the squad.

He said: “Scott is a talented player who was desperate to come and play his football in England. He is someone who can operate in a number of different positions and roles, and he adds strength to the squad we are building.

“He is a live-wire with a great work ethic and quality on the ball, and he is someone we are looking forward to working with this season.

“We have done our homework on Scott and we are all delighted that he sees his future with us at Spennymoor Town.”
