Welcome to Spennymoor, Claudio Ofosu

Spennymoor Town has acquired the services of Claudio Ofosu following his release from fellow National League North side Kettering Town.

Ofosu, 23, can play on the wing or in midfield and has National League experience following a season at Hartlepool United.

Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley’s third signing began his career at Stevenage FC, before loan spells at Biggledwade United, Kings Langley and Mildenhall Town.

He joined St Neots Town before an eye catching season at Royston Town, where he netted nine goals and assisted 11, sealing him a move to Pools in the summer of 2020.

Ofosu featured in Kettering’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Moors in September 2021.

Spennymoor’s latest signing sat down and spoke to Moors TV and shared his ambitions with the club.

He said: “The management team played a big part in the move when I heard there was interest. Their track record speaks for itself.

“They’ve been successful in this league and non-league in general, so I felt it was the perfect fit for me at this stage of my career.

“I know a few people who have played under Jonno and Bernard before, and they have told me they get the best out of players.

“For me at the age I am now it feels like it’s the perfect suit and timing. Their ambitions match mine which is why I have chosen to come to Spennymoor.

“I do believe I am an out and out winger, but I can play anywhere across the front three and in behind the striker. I have played in midfield before but that isn’t my natural position.

“I’ve been on a lot of loans at different clubs over the years, but I really feel like this is a place where I can call home and settle for the long term.

“Anyone who knows me knows I love the North-East after my time at Hartlepool. The people are so friendly and everyone has been very welcoming since I arrived.”

“I really feel like this is a place where I can call home and settle for the long term.”

Joint-Manager Anthony Johnson spoke of his ongoing pursuit of Ofosu and his delight having finally captured the winger.

He said: “The first time we saw Claudio was at Royston Town in the FA Trophy a few years ago when we were at Salford. They beat us 3-0 and he ran rings around us!

“That performance from him left a massive mark on us in a good way, and he went on to have a really good season there.

“What we didn’t know is that he was on Hartlepool’s radar at the time, and he opted to go there and we missed out on him.

“We actually tried to sign him again during our time at Chester in the summer but he opted to move to Kettering which was closer to where he lived.

“The big thing for us is that he commits opposition players.”

“In terms of his profile as a player, he is quick, strong and direct. He is full of tricks but I don’t want it to sound like he is a one trick pony.

“He causes huge problems for opposition players and is a similar type of player to Jude Oyibo, in the sense that he excites the crowd and isn’t afraid to make something happen.

“He can cover the multiple positions in behind the striker role, but the big thing for us is that he commits opposition players.

“We are delighted to finally get him and I’m sure he will be a big favourite here at The Brewery Field.”

Ofosu is available to feature in Saturday’s National League North game against Boston United.
