Thewlis is a Moor!

Spennymoor Town are delighted to announce the signing of Jordan Thewlis from Guiseley.

The 29-year-old striker has enjoyed a prolific career at the likes of Boston United and Harrogate Town, and brings a wealth of experience and quality to the squad.

Thewlis scored for The Lions earlier this month in Moors’ 2-1 win at The Brewery Field and has proven himself as a clinical National League North goal-getter.

“He is a real coup for us and he is a lad who would walk into any team in our league.”

The forward progressed through the Scunthorpe United Academy before signing a professional contract with the club in 2011.

He had two spells with Harrogate Town and spent a season at Gainsborough before netting 22 goals in 53 matches for Moors’ opponents this weekend, Boston United, at an average of 2.4 goals per game.

After putting pen to paper, Thewlis said: “I’m really happy to have got the deal sorted and to sign for Spennymoor.

It’s important that we kick on after a good run and focus on achieving the goal which is to make it into the play-off places come April/May time.

Thewlis netted against Spennymoor for Guiseley earlier this month at The Brewery Field.

I’ve had some success but also heartache in the play-off’s during the last six or seven years in the National League with a few teams.

Because of those experiences I know there is no better feeling than competing in those types of games where there is so much at stake.

That ambition and goal is one of the big reasons in my decision to join the club. We are currently 8th and in a good spot to kick on and strive towards promotion.”

Joint-Manager Anthony Johnson expressed his delight at securing Thewlis’ signature.

He said: “This is a huge signing for the club. He is a real coup for us as he is a lad who would walk into any team in our league.

“Without a shadow of a doubt he has put in the best two individual performances against us this season, and he has all the abilities to be the perfect partner for the likes of Glen, Rob and Frank.

“He will make a massive difference to us and we are more than delighted to make him a Spennymoor Town player.”

Thewlis will wear the number 24 shirt for the club.

Thewlis is available to feature in today’s squad and could make his debut against Boston United this afternoon!
