Spennymoor comfortably defeated Chester at the Deva Stadium, as they took their first three points since the start of January.

Moors came into the game with an unchanged starting XI from the side that were defeated by Gateshead.

Dale Eve and Chris Mason returned to the bench in place of Jude Oyibo and Mark Anderson.

Both sides struggled to maintain possession early on, but it was Spennymoor who struck first through Rob Ramshaw.

The midfielder was slipped through on goal by Jordan Thewlis, with the former sliding the ball into the corner of the net after six minutes.

Chester grew into the half and created their first chance in the 18th minute, when Rob Apter picked out Darren Stephenson, but the forward’s header was straight at the ‘keeper.

The Blues nearly found an equaliser from a scramble inside the area, with the final effort poked just wide of the post.

Glen Taylor had a chance to double Moors’ advantage from the penalty spot when Jordan Thewlis was grappled inside the area.

Unfortunately for the forward, Chester’s ‘keeper was equal to his powerfully struck penalty, as he was denied his 19th goal of the season.

Chester nearly scored a leveller a minute after the restart, when Stephenson bent an effort off the inside the post from outside the area, with Joe Tait able to clear the rebound away.

The Blues were made to rue their chances shortly after, as a long ball through from Ramshaw was latched onto by Thewlis, with the striker slipping the ball into the back of the net from a tight angle.

Ramshaw nearly doubled his tally for the game, when Taylor played a slick reverse pass into the feet of the midfielder, but Wyll Stanway denied him with his legs.

Moors nearly scored a third from the resulting corner, with Tait powering his header just over the bar, which was the final chance of the game.
