Moors Ladies are back in action on Sunday when they face a tricky trip to face Wallsend Boys Club Women in the NERWFL Premier Division (2pm kick-off).
Brent Smithson’s side were without a game last weekend but will have their eyes on the opportunity to close the gap on the division’s top four with victory on Sunday.
The two sides only met a month ago at The Brewery Field and on that occasion Moors turned in one of the best performances of the season in a 4-0 triumph.
However, Smithson is not expecting things to be as straightforward this time around and has warned his players they must be ready for a big challenge this weekend.
“It’s always a tough game at Wallsend and Sunday will be no different,” he insisted.
“They’re a very technical side and they will get the ball down and play when they get the chance, but they also work very hard out of possession.
“It’s going to be a difficult game for us but it’s one we’ll approach with a lot of confidence both from our last game against them and from our recent form in general.”
Smithson is boosted by the return of several players from injury, though influential du Autumn College and Amy Elliott look set to be sidelined for the weekend.
Moors were without a game last weekend and Smithson has made the most of the break to draft in two new signings, with attacking midfielder Kulreet Sangha joining from Durham Cestria Reserves and goalkeeper Izzy Dixon arriving from Alnwick Town.
“We’ve had a real challenge with injuries this season so it’s great to see players coming back into the team finally,” admitted Smithson.
“With the two new girls coming into the squad too, we now once again have competition for places and the players will know they need to raise their performance levels as a result.”
Sunday’s game is a 2pm kick-off and takes place at Kirkley Park in Wallsend where fans are welcome to go along and enjoy the action.
