Moors Ladies kick-off their 2025/26 NERWFL Premier Division campaign on Sunday when they make the trip to face Ponteland United (2pm kick-off).
It’s been a summer of transition at The Brewery Field for our Ladies Team following the decision of Brent Smithson to step down as boss at the end of last season.
The appointment of Stephen Durrant followed, and he has overseen the arrival of nine new signings to overhaul his squad ahead of the big kick-off this weekend.
Moors have enjoyed an encouraging pre-season campaign during which the standout result was a 1-0 triumph over National League outfit Norton & Stockton Ancients.
However, Sunday’s fixture represents a tricky start to 2025/26 against a Ponteland side who finished third in the table and completed a league double over Moors last term.
“We’re happy with the work we’ve done over the summer and through pre-season,” said Durrant.
“It’s been exciting for me to come into a Club like Spennymoor where there is such a strong and forward-thinking women’s set-up, but we’ve had to hit the ground running.
“There’s obviously been a good number of new players arriving with us and we’re really looking forward to seeing how they can settle in and help us move forward.
“We’ve brought in a good blend of youth and experience and I am confident they can help us enjoy a really successful season and I know the girls can’t wait to get going now.”
Sunday’s game is a 2pm kick-off and is being played at Ponteland Leisure Centre where fans are welcome to attend for a small admission charge.
The first home game of the campaign is against local rivals South Shields at The Brewery Field on Sunday 7th September (2pm kick-off) – click here to buy your tickets now.
