A second 3-0 win in a row saw Moors march past Chadderton and into the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup at The Brewery Field on Saturday.
Glen Taylor opened the scoring with his 55th minute header, before Katia Kouayte’s calm finish doubled the lead. Olly Dyson rounded off the afternoon with his low finish into the bottom right corner.
Moors produced the game’s first half-chance as Matty Dolan laid a free kick off to Tom Pugh, who smashed an effort into the area, only to see it blocked.
Mondal went close on two separate occasions as he saw a strike go wide of the post on the 15th minute, before his header was claimed by Joseph Oldham four minutes later.
Brad James was forced into some unorthodox defending with 21 minutes on the clock, as he had to dive to head the ball out of play to prevent a Chadderton counter.
Graeme Lee’s men almost took the lead just before the half-hour mark through the dangerous Taylor. The big number 9 put a downwards header on target, only to see it brilliantly saved by Oldham.
Pressure continued to mount on the visitors, as both Dolan and Dyson tried their luck on goal, only for both to amount to nothing.
Moors finished the half the stronger of the two sides, as Rob Ramshaw had his flicked header tipped over the bar, before Taylor headed just wide of the right post.
A frustrating first half saw Moors come out for the second 45 with real intent to break the deadlock.
Mondal again posed problems for the hosts as his ball found Dolan on the edge of the area, who let fly, only to see his strike deflect wide of the mark for a corner. Dan Rowe got his head onto the ball in, but saw his effort cleared off the line by a Chadderton man.
Ben Greenidge and Carl Taylor’s men were finally carved open on 55 minutes when a Dolan corner found the head of Taylor, who made no mistake and headed home from inside the area, adding to his impressive goal tally this season.
The captain had a chance to double the lead just four minutes later but miscued his strike and fired well wide of the post.
The visitors’ first real chance of the half came 20 minutes in, as Matthew Barlow struck an effort wide from 25 yards out, as they continued to struggle to get back into the game.
Substitute Katie Kouyate went close on the 70th minute, as a looped ball from Ramshaw found him at the back post. The Barrow loan star connected with the ball but couldn’t direct the effort on target.
Another substitute, Cam Salkeld, also went close soon after, only to see his low driven strike claimed by Oldham.
Mackenzie Heaney produced some brilliant defending with 13 minutes left to prevent a Chadderton counterattack, as the summer signing slid in to put the ball out of play.
Moors doubled their lead just two minutes later, as the visitors failed to play out from the back. Moors nicked the ball just outside the area, before slotting the ball through to Kouyate, who calmly stroked the ball home from close range.
Chadderton almost pulled one back with six minutes remaining, as a good move down the right saw a ball make its way across the face of goal and to the backpost, where Benito Lowe was waiting. However, Brad James pulled off a brilliant save to deny the visitors of a way back into the game.
The icing on the cake came with almost the last kick of the game, as Dyson fired home a well driven shot into the bottom right corner of the net after being teed up by Taylor.
A good win at home as Moors progress further into the FA Cup, with the draw for the next round being made on Monday. Focus now shifts back to the league as we host Southport at home.
