Moors Ladies bowed out of the Women’s FA Cup on Sunday when they were beaten by National League outfit Huddersfield Town in the final round of qualifying.
Nikita Hemmingway’s side were always underdogs for the tie, played against a Terriers side who currently sit second in Division One North of the Women’s National League.
Moors suffered a blow in the early stages when they were forced into a change when Coral Colledge was replaced by Shannon Reed.
However, they remained resolute and kept their hosts at bay until midway through the first half when Huddersfield struck the first goal.
The home side were proving strong opposition, and they doubled their lead just before half time to take a 2-0 advantage in at the break.
Moors rallied at the start of the second half, knowing that they could bring themselves back into the cup tie if they were to grab the next goal.
However, it was Huddersfield who scored a third just after the hour mark before hitting a quick-fire fourth goal just minutes later to take the game away from Moors.
The tie was over completely on 67 minutes when the hosts helped themselves to a fifth goal against a tiring Moors outfit.
There was a moment of consolation for Hemmingway’s players four minutes from time when Sophie Hodgson pulled a goal back, but it was Huddersfield who progressed.
“We knew it would be tough today, but I am proud of the way the girls went about it overall,” Hemmingway told us.
“Today can be a positive experience for us because it shows the players the levels they should be striving for and hopefully we can learn from that going forward.
“We’ll now turn our attentions back to the league and we want to get back on a winning run with that and drive ourselves up the table.”
Moors will now face Alnwick Town at The Brewery Field on Sunday (2pm kick-off) after their scheduled League Cup tie against Thornaby was forfeited by the opposition.
