Boyes, 27, became Jason Ainsley’s seventh signing of the summer following an influx of players at the beginning of July. The forward joined York City in 2008 and after making a quick impact in the first team, he won an England “C” cap as a substitute in a 4-0 win over Malta in February 2009. He was also a member of the York squad that played in the FA Trophy Final that year and made a total of 38 first team appearances for City, scoring three times before joining Scunthorpe United in the summer of 2009, reportedly for a six-figure fee. Goal-laden spells with Boston United, Barrow, Guiseley and Bradford Park Avenue followed as Boyes established himself as one of non-league’s most prolific strikers.
